Chief Operating Officer (COO)

For a growing Italian food manufacturing company operating in the premium bakery sector, we are looking for a Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Reporting directly to the CEO, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the company's operations and driving operational excellence during an important phase of business growth and international expansion.

This is a strategic leadership position within an entrepreneurial environment, offering the opportunity to play a pivotal role in the company's future development while maintaining a strong focus on operational execution and business performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all operational functions, including Production, Supply Chain, Procurement, Quality and Maintenance.
  • Assume full responsibility for the operational P&L, ensuring profitability through effective cost control and sound working capital management.
  • Drive initiatives aimed at improving productivity, operational efficiency and overall manufacturing performance.
  • Optimize production processes by reducing waste and increasing operational effectiveness.
  • Support the company's growth strategy by developing scalable organizational structures and operational processes.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, automation projects and investments in manufacturing technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and internationally recognized quality standards (including HACCP, IFS and related certifications).
  • Foster close collaboration between Sales and Operations through effective Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP).
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO, contributing to both strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Lead, develop and inspire cross-functional management teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Food Technology or a related discipline.
  • Extensive leadership experience in senior operational roles within the Food Manufacturing or FMCG sectors.
  • Proven track record of improving operational performance, increasing efficiency and optimizing manufacturing costs.
  • Demonstrated success in supporting business growth and scaling manufacturing organizations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and people management skills.
  • Ability to thrive in dynamic, entrepreneurial organizations.
  • Previous experience in privately owned or medium-sized manufacturing companies will be considered an advantage.

Languages

  • Fluent Italian and English are mandatory.
  • Knowledge of additional languages will be considered an advantage.
